Belfast Titanic Festival

I had an opportunity to work in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2007. Belfast which means “mouth of the sandbars” in Irish is the largest city in and also the capital city of Northern Ireland. My stay in Belfast was for a shorter period of time so I didn’t had a chance to explore a lot. Since I travelled alone I could take the excuse of solitary for not exploring, as well. In this blog, The pictures in this blog are few of those which I snapped during my visit to Belfast.

Belfast City Hall

I stayed in Hilton Hotel which was closer to the Belfast City Hall, would take 10 minutes by walk to reach. During my stay there were few festivals held in the City Hall.

One of those was the Belfast Titanic Festival organized by the Belfast City Council every year in the month of April.

What is the Titanic Festival and how it is related to Belfast is the question pondering around your mind, if I guessed it correctly. Many of us (including me till I visited this place) may not know that Titanic ship was built in Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast. The build was completed on 31st March 1912. And as we all know, the rest was history.

Titanic - A Brief History

The Belfast Titanic Festival is celebrated every year in remembrance of the ship. It's a week long programme with lot of tours and exhibitions about the ship, it's history and news about the tragic end of the ship.

The exhibit also includes some of the final farewell letters recovered from the remains of the ship under the ocean, old newspapers and some heart touching displays.

It was beautiful experience to know about the Titanic's History although the end was not so pleasant for both the ship and the thousands who sailed in.
